Teen Trends–Holiday 2014

The holidays are quickly approaching, and it’s time to start thinking of gift giving ideas. I went out to some local stores and talked to a few employees about the popular items for this holiday season. Here’s a look into the 2014 holiday items trending for teens.
Starbucks gift cards are definitely a must. I got the chance to sit down with Chris, a barista at the store on Elmwood Avenue, to talk about the most popular drinks for teens right now, and the new holiday drinks on the menu. This year they’ve introduced the Chestnut Praline Latte, which Chris says tastes like the Golden Grahams cereal. Starbucks is also bringing back the Caramel Brûlée Latte and Peppermint Mocha, both being very popular with teens as both lattes and Frappucinos.
Candles are a great gift to spice up a room. Bath and Body Works always has a wide selection, and I got to chat with Brianna, an employee at the store on Elmwood, about the candles teens are loving right now. Because the company is constantly changing their scents, you can always find one you’ll like. The most popular right now seem to be the sweet ones, such as Merry Cookie and Peach Bellini.
At Renew Bath and Body on Elmwood, the owner Tom told me all about his store full of scents. The most popular items sold to teenagers are the bath bombs. They have many different scents, which are great if you want a blast of scented bubbles while taking your bath. The scent white tea ginger is one of my personal favorites. You can get a variety of different scents in body wash, bath bombs, and lotion.
At Shoefly on Elmwood, an employee named Melissa was kind enough to take me around the store and tell me what most of the teens are buying this season. She showed me their figure eight scarves and head wraps, which were oh-so adorable! She said the figure eight scarves were great because they eliminate having to tie your scarves perfectly, and she commented on how the head wraps don’t mess up your hair, which is always a plus. Melissa also told me about a huge change in footwear that she’s noticed this year. Girls are moving away from the extremely popular UGG boots and towards the Sorel boots! It makes sense, Sorel boots are waterproof and hold-up much better than UGGs, but it’s hard to believe that UGGs are slowly going out of style.
These are just a few ideas to help you get a start on your holiday shopping. By the end of this season, you and your friends should be looking and feeling bright and refreshed! Happy holidays!
