Volunteer Fair Sparks Excitement Throughout Community

We may seem stuck in a long stretch of cold and snowy winter weather in Buffalo, but Nichols Students are already planning for community service opportunities in the coming months. Last Friday, January 30, Nichols hosted more than 20 different organizations from around Western New York at our second annual Volunteer Fair. Agencies working for a variety of causes, including refugee services, services to feed the needy, environmental preservation and many others.
Students were able to hear from a representative from each organization and also from fellow students who have experience working with some of these agencies. The students learned about the different causes that are in need of support in the Buffalo community and each student was able to engage in meaningful and lively discussion with representatives about the kinds of opportunities there are to get out and volunteer in the coming months.
It was empowering to see and hear how much help Nichols students have already contributed to each organization that was able to attend. At the same time, the volunteer fair was motivational, as we witnessed the constant need for service in our community. Each agency that visited offers a unique and meaningful opportunity for students to get involved outside of Nichols, and make a change for a cause which they feel passionate about. This year’s volunteer fair sparked a tangible excitement throughout the school for community service projects coming up this spring.
